Groups vs. cohorts
Groups and cohorts organize members for different purposes.
A group is a standing structure, such as "Backend team," "Security champions," or "West Coast office." It has no start or end date and stays until you delete it.
A cohort is a time-boxed class with a start and end date, such as a quarterly onboarding class or a scheduled training run. After the end date, the cohort's work is done, though its members may continue in a group.

Create and organize
Create a group with a name and an optional description, then add members. A member can belong to multiple groups at once, such as "Backend team" and "Security champions." Both memberships count independently toward assignments and coverage.
Give each group a distinct name before using it for assignments so you can identify it in coverage reports.
Move and manage
You can rename a group, edit its description, or add and remove members at any time. These changes do not affect labs its members have already completed.
Moving someone between groups means adding them to the new group and removing them from the old one. Since membership isn't exclusive, you can do these steps in either order without leaving them ungrouped.
Deleting a group is safeAn assignment is tied to the members it was sent to, not to the group itself. Deleting a group leaves every assignment, band, and completion record for its members unchanged.
Assignments and coverage
Groups and cohorts are used for assignments and coverage reporting. When you create an assignment, you choose a group, a cohort, a role, or individual people. In coverage and reporting, every rollup and export can be filtered the same way.
Set up groups and cohorts before assigning work in bulk. Assigning once to "Q3 onboarding cohort" is easier than selecting the same members each time.
